Sutter Tracy Welcomes New Obstetrician/Gynecologist
April 2002
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), Sharon Washington, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., recently opened her own practice alongside Sutter Tracy OB/GYN Stephen Tsang, M.D. The two physicians provide a wide range of OB/GYN services, including pre and post natal care, deliveries, family planning, infertility workups, preventive care, menopause treatment, gynecological surgery, and much more.
"I'm very excited to be working with Sharon. She's a talented, experienced doctor and will be a great addition to the community," says Dr. Tsang, who is also the director of the Sutter Tracy Continence Center. "We share the same philosophy when it comes to providing personal care and building a life-long relationship with our patients."
From 1999 to 2002, Dr. Washington was an OB/GYN at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California, where she trained Family Practice residents rotating through the medical center's OB/GYN service. She also cared for patients, including many who were at risk for cervical cancer.
"A big part of my job is listening to patients' fears and concerns," says Dr. Washington. "Many times, I may be the only person they feel they can turn to for help or advice."
Dr. Washington completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. She also spent two years in the surgical residency program at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland. She attended the Medical College of Wisconsin through the United States Army Health Professions Scholarship Program.
As payback for her Army scholarship, Dr. Washington served as chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Reynolds Army Community Hospital in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, from 1995 to 1999.
"The Army gave me a lot of responsibility and experience early in my career that I couldn't have received anywhere else," says Dr. Washington, who rose to the rank of major. "It also required a lot of physical training, teamwork, and self-discipline."
Dr. Washington says she looks forward to living and working in Tracy and being in private practice with Dr. Tsang and his wife Thuxoan who runs their office. She particularly enjoys caring for pregnant women and has delivered hundreds of babies. She's also experienced in many types of gynecological surgery and medical conditions, such as endometriosis, pelvic pain, and hormone replacement therapy.
Dr. Washington and Dr. Tsang can be reached at 209-833-6221. Their office is located at 467 W. Eaton Avenue in Tracy.
