Sutter Tracy Unveils New State-of-the-Art Outpatient Surgical Center

December 2004

TRACY, CA – Sutter Tracy Community Hospital announces the opening of its newly enlarged and remodeled outpatient surgical support center. The 10,000 square foot addition is part of Sutter Tracy's $24 million hospital expansion project, which also includes a new Emergency Department and a 4,000 square foot addition to the Obstetrics Department.

The new outpatient surgical support center is capable of twice the number of patients and includes 12 new outpatient rooms, a dedicated two-room endoscopy (GI) suite, pediatric patient room, infusion center, and centralized nurses' station. Spacious, private pre-op and recovery areas reduce noise and give patients greater privacy. A larger, more comfortable waiting area includes a separate section for children complete with kids' movies, toys, and games. The new center also has its own admission area and pre-admission nurses who help prepare patients prior to elective surgery.
"We're very excited about this expanded space. It's an excellent improvement to our department that will enable us to improve our services to patients," said Chief of Surgery John Mast, MD.

Over the past three years, the number of outpatient surgeries and GI procedures performed at Sutter Tracy has grown 30 percent. The new private GI suite will free up the operating rooms and allow for greater scheduling flexibility for patients and their physicians.
"I've worked in Tracy for over 20 years and seen Sutter Tracy grow from a little hospital to the modern facility it is today," said Mahesh Modi, MD, gastroenterologist. "The new GI suite is a great addition that will enable us to do colonoscopies and other GI procedures more quickly and efficiently, which means we can help more people."

"New and advanced technology, combined with more spacious and well-designed patient care areas, will provide patients with greater convenience and comfort and faster service," added Sutter Tracy CEO Gary Rapaport. "The expansion is part of our commitment to meeting the ever-growing demand for services and by providing outstanding medical care to our patients and being the best place to work for our employees."
