Sutter Tracy Community Hospital Commemorates A Piece of Tracy's History Friday, June 28

June 2002

Tracy, CA -- To inaugurate Sutter Tracy Community Hospital's major expansion efforts, a special tribute to the original Obstetrics wing of the hospital will take place on Friday, June 28th at 8:30 am on the lawn area on the corner of Eaton and Bessie. The event will feature a brief presentation on the history, a glimpse of the future and more.

Sutter Tracy Community Hospital's $23 million expansion plans include new additions and major remodeling projects which will take place in phases over the next two years. During phase one, the original Obstetrics wing of the hospital will be torn down to make room for a one-story 10,000-square foot building. Hospital Administration and Physical Therapy will move into the new building, which will free up space to expand the Obstetrics and other departments in the main hospital building. The Home Health and Hospice departments who occupy the wing now, will move to it's new location on Tracy Boulevard and Linne Road this week.

Over 54 years ago, community members and business individuals came together to create a successful community hospital because they saw a need in the community and resolved to fill it. Tracy Community Memorial Hospital opened its doors at the beginning of the Baby Boom Generation, on the heels of World War II, in December of 1948. During the past five decades, the Tracy landscape and population have changed, as well as the health care environment, but the mission behind our not-for-profit homegrown hospital has not. We still take care of our families, friends and neighbors and will do so for decades to come.
