TRACY, CA – The Tracy Hospital Foundation will honor the recipients of the Foundation's 2006 community funding at its annual meeting on April 7th at the Tracy Community Center. The Foundation will announce the total funding nearly $300,000 for community programs and organizations that promote and protect the health and well being of Tracy area residents.
"The Foundation's sole purpose is to improve the quality of health in the Tracy community," said Pam Warta, chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees. "We do that by identifying the community's health care needs and providing the financial support and resources necessary to meet those needs."
This year, the Foundation is funding several new projects, including Healthy Connections, Sutter Tracy’s "one stop" health information and resource center, and the Senior Safety Partnership, a new venture between the Foundation and the Sunrise Rotary Club. Local trades people and volunteers work together to fix faulty wiring and gas leaks, repair roofs and windows, and make other safety improvements to the homes of low-income Tracy seniors. Another first time recipient, the Charterhouse Center for Families in San Joaquin County, received a $15,000 grant from the Foundation. Charterhouse representatives visit Healthy Connections every week to enroll families in Healthy Kids and other free or low-cost health insurance programs.

"Many families go without vital health care services because they don’t have health insurance or the money to pay for the services themselves. Our goal is to help families find programs they qualify for so they don't fall through the cracks," says Mario Supnet, Charterhouse program director. "We're very grateful to the Foundation and their generous grant that will enable us to expand our services and help even more families in Tracy." Among the other grantees for 2006 are several programs serving children, including the Challenged Kids Program of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tracy, Tracy Interfaith Ministries and a new enhanced CPR for Kids and Healthy Hearts program. More than 55,000 Tracy school children have already learned the ABC's of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) thanks to this unique program, which receives 100 percent of its funding from the Foundation.
"Children are great CPR students. They soak up everything they learn and carry it with them for life," says Tracy paramedic and firefighter Michael Oliveri, who volunteers on the CPR for Kids planning committee. "There's nothing like this program around, and it wouldn’t be possible without the Foundation's Festival of Trees funding and support."
"The Foundation has generated millions of dollars since its inception in 1993 to fund hospital improvements and community projects that help keep our community healthy," added Warta. "But we couldn't have done it without the generosity of hundreds of local businesses and individuals. The community's continued support is crucial to our success."
