Our History

Sutter Tracy Community Hospital was established by community members in 1948, and constructed with funds provided through generous donations from local residents, businesses, service organizations and industries. The facility was developed in response to a need for quality, local medical care in our budding town of 5,000. Relying on hospital facilities in Stockton was no longer an acceptable arrangement.

Originally called Tracy Community Memorial Hospital, the hospital changed its name after affiliating with Sutter Health, one of the nation’s leading not-for-profit health care networks, in 1993. This relationship gives us the unique opportunity to share resources and expertise with other members of the Sutter Health network. It also provides the best of both worlds: our patients receive the latest and most advanced medical care available while enjoying the personal care and convenient access provided by a local community hospital.

Since our founding, we have expanded to meet the needs of our growing community, undergoing major construction projects in 1973, 1978, 1991 and 2004. Today Sutter Tracy is an 82-bed fully accredited, not-for-profit, full-service medical center with state-of-the-art technology and highly skilled physicians representing nearly every medical specialty.
